One day has been allocated this month for a free health screening of all school-aged children in Antigua. On Wednesday January 20, children 2½-15 can be tested for vision, audiology, physiological, developmental and dental challenges between 10 am and 1 pm at the Multipurpose Center at Perry Bay.
The Disability & Health Awareness Fair is a project of the Antigua & Barbuda and Rochester, NY Chapters of Partners of the Americas (POA).
The aim is to help improve the quality of life of persons throughout the hemisphere through volunteerism.
Physicians, medical and other personnel from Rochester, NY and Antigua and Barbuda, as well as audiologists from the Global Deaf Connection (GDC) in Minnesota, USA will participate.
The Aim for Abilities Committees of the POA chapters are collaborating with the Kiwanis Club, with support from the government, which also offered the venue and provided accommodations for the US teams.
In keeping with a healthy theme, the children will receive a lunch recommended by a nutritionist and prepared by the National School Meals Program with donations from the corporate community.
Screening of preschoolers 2½-5 years old will take place between 8:30-10:00 am and screening of children 6-15 years will take place from 10:00 am-noon.
