Glaucoma Photo Contest

GlaucomaAntigua and Barbuda Glaucoma Support Group will be collaborating with AntiguaNice Limited for a public photo contest this year as part of World Glaucoma activities.

Observances started earlier this month, but the week will officially be from March 10 - 16, according to Dr Jillia Bird of the local Glaucoma Support Group.

The photo contest will promote the importance of regular eye exams for early detection and management of glaucoma, Daydre Daley of AntiguaNice told Caribarena.

"Whether it's your baby's toothless smile or that dazzling sunset, email your 'oh so precious' photos with a comment to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , then get your family and fans to like your photo on our Facebook page," Daley said.

Winners will be drawn on March 16 at a glaucoma rally to be held at the Lion's Den. The last date for submission is March 13 and entrance is free.

First and second prizes will be complete eye exams.

Meanwhile, activities continue today with radio shows and a panel discussion with Dr Jillia Bird on Observer Radio.

In March, parliamentarians will be given free screenings, followed by a schools’ art competition, and presentations to the Kiwanis, Scotia Bank, Villa, St Phillips, Spanish communities, and glaucoma patients.

Screening will also be done at an AUA health fair at the Multipurpose Centre, as well as a Glaucoma Week cocktail fundraiser at Island Inn and a day of sale.

These activities will round off with a March for Sight and the Glaucoma Rally at the Lion's Den.

Dr Bird said the dates for these events are still tentative, but the public will be kept abreast.

Free screenings for Parliamentarian s

Poor Sympathiser, I think they do need the screenings as all of them seem to suffer from short sighted ness. Maybe the screening will help them to see the havoc they are causing by their lack of vision.

Give the elderly, those living on minimum wage, and public school students free eye exams. Don't give them to the parliamentarian s. They can more than afford to pay for their own eye exam.
