Wear Yellow To End Elder Abuse

photo- imt.ie.comAntigua St John’s - As Antigua & Barbuda joins the worldwide fight to eliminate abuse of elderly people, the Ministry of Social Transformation is inviting members of the public to show their support by wearing yellow on the designated day.

Preventing abuse of senior citizens will be the focus of activities on Friday, June 15, which will be observed as International Elder Abuse Prevention and Awareness Day.

During this week the Government Residential Assistance Care for the Elderly and Eligible (GRACE), will be conducting a series activities aimed at highlighting the issues that impact the elderly in Antigua & Barbuda.

Emphasis will also be placed on encouraging the younger generations to "Take a Stand in the Fight Against Elder Abuse!" - the theme under which this year’s observance will be celebrated.

To this end, everyone – old, young, families, neighbours and friends – is being asked to heed the call to action to show that the country cares about ending elder abuse and neglect.

No mention of the types of elderly abuse taking place in Antigua, if any. It takes much more than wearing a coloured shirt to stop abuse. No suggestions or tips from the ministry? Do tell.

I always thought of opening a Elerderly Home in Antigua in memory of my Mom. She got the best care ever while she was alive and I made sure she received it. I have witnessed some seniors in ANU at some homes and the Feinnes Institute and it very sad to see how these people live. I would like some info on contacting the right govt. office with regards to opening an elderly home.
I await your feedback. Thank you
