Antigua St John's - As we celebrate Labour Day this year in Antigua and Barbuda, it is important to remember that a Mentally Healthy Workplace is one of the standards that every employer and employee should strive to attain, says the Superintendant of Clarevue Psychiatric Hospital, Mr. Clarence E. Pilgrim.
Mr. Pilgrim says that management and labour unions have a responsibility to employees; to work in harmony and ensure that the many components to creating and fostering a mentally healthy workplace are identified and where appropriate, implemented within a calculated time-frame.
Mr. Pilgrim further says that he would like to see the creation of a “Partnership for Workplace Mental Health Standards”, which would be a group of dedicated professionals made up primarily of Employees, Unions, Health Care Providers and other interested stakeholders, who will work to develop a workplace Mental Wellness Plan.
Pilgrim says that Mental Health is not just about diagnosed illnesses. It can also be about many factors that improve a person’s well being.
