Antiguan Surgeon Attains Professional Recognition

Dr. Dwayne ThwaitesAntigua St. John's - U.S-based Antiguan surgeon, Dr. Dwayne Thwaites, was among over thirteen hundred surgeons initiated in the highly respected Fellows of the American College of Surgeons during a convocation ceremony held in Chicago, Illinois, last month.

Dr Thwaites received his medical doctorate degree in medicine from the University of Miami School of Medicine in 1992.  He is currently practicing medicine at Albemarle Hospital located in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

He has received board certification from the American Board of Urology. He has a strong interest in urology and he also holds membership in other professional organisations, including the American University of Antigua and the American Medical Association.

Due to his latest achievements, Dr. Thwaites now earns the right to use the designation FACS after his name. The society’s rules dictate that an applicant for fellowship must be a graduate of a recognised medical school and must have completed advanced training in one of the 14 surgical disciplines.

He must also have practiced for at least one year in the same geographical location. Before admission into the fellowship, the surgeon must further demonstrate ethical fitness and professional proficiency and his acceptance into the fellowship must be approved by three-fourths of the Board of Regents.

Dr Thwaites is the man behind the annual prostate screening clinic conducted jointly with the Lion’s Club of Antigua.

#12 bluddy bloke » 2012-12-03 21:12

Dr Thwaites, I will admit that I will feel very hurt if I did not take this moment to extend an hearty congratulations to you. You have made me a former OCS school mate of yours extremely proud. You are an extremely humble guy. Your simplicity makes one feel very comfortable around you inspite of accomplishments . Infact your life style, who is very much a fun filled and party person does not make you stand out among the common man. Perhaps if that person does not know who you are, you definitely do not make him or her any wiser. Once again Doc, congrats and continue to be who you are; Simple, Humble and Intellectual explosive.
