Lions Pinning For Diabetes Day

Lions Pinning For Diabetes DayAntigua St. John's - On November 14, which is recognized as World Diabetes Day, the Diabetes Association in collaboration with the Lions Club of Antigua held a glucose screening at the Lions’ Den. Participants were also able to have their BMI, cholesterol levels and blood pressure checked.  Counseling was also available.

After the screening, a brief pinning ceremony was held where eight members from prominent organizations and groups were pinned with a diabetes pin.

In delivering her speech, the president of the Diabetes Association, Eunetta James, said the significance of pinning the individuals is for them, through their organizations, to spread the message of diabetes awareness and to promote a healthy lifestyle.

The representative from the Lions Club of Antigua, Virgil Daniel, is also chairperson of the Health, Social Services and Civic Improvement Committee. Lion Virgil disclosed that the club is presently assisting three persons, all of whom have diabetes, to travel overseas to undergo eye surgery.

Earlier that day, members of the Lions Club delivered approximately 20 hot lunches to needy persons in the St Johns communities. Lions deliver hot meals every Wednesday.
