Antigua St John's - MSJMC’s Outpatient Clinic (OPC) hosts Boot Camp for Unit Clerks, Medical Records and Outpatient Clinic members of staff.
The one-day teambuilding event was hosted at the hospital. Staff members were assigned to different teams and participated in a selection of indoor and outdoor teambuilding activities.
Over 20 members of staff were involved in the first-time teambuilding event, with each required to complete both the morning and afternoon sessions. The purpose of the event was to help the attendees network to improve communication, trust and team work.
Activities included presentations from the MSJMC Human Resources Director, Charmaine Elien, the Director of Administration (oversees OPC), Gary Thomas, MSJMC’s Social Worker, Koren Norton and a former patient of the hospital, one of the highlights of the event.
All the activities encouraged participants to discover how they and other team members respond and react to different challenges, and therefore how they can adapt their behavior to respond most appropriately to situations.
Outpatient Clinic Supervisor, Keri-Anne Bramble-Browne was responsible for organizing the Boot Camp. She commented
"This is one of the first official teambuilding exercises we have done for the Outpatient Clinic and yet there are already some subtle differences I’ve seen which are amazing. I have seen difficult, challenging characters beginning to reflect on and amend their style.”

Friends, CountryWomen/Me n, rather than debate whether MSJMC has the right strategies in place, more can and will always be achieved by accelerating existing projects through Cross-Training and Project Management, strengthening the focus on patient-centere d quality care and working together in teamwork to better remove barriers to coordinated care and transitions. All Stakeholders have a part to play in Improving Quality by reducing the Perceived Congestion at MSJMC.

From Team Building To Cross-Training To Congestion Reduction! PT!
The participants were Unit Clerks, Medical Records and Outpatient Clinic members of staff. It will be of the utmost import that the Administration move quickly in concert with the Staff & Their Unions to Cross Training. This will require the goodwill of all involved to ensure improved productivity, efficiency and effectivenes of Quality Healthcare Service Delivery.
Notwithstanding the paucity of Data, the issue of Congestion, in the Public Mind, looms large. Rather than debate the numbers -real or perceived - Congestion must be tackled with Urgency. GoAB must reduce Congestion to more manageable levels to gain the People's Trust. MSJMC is the Nation's Centre for trauma, cardiac and neurosciences. Rather than the easy response of additional major capital project, patients may benefit from the Private Sector.
