Vaccination Week Planned

photo- iusd.netAntigua St John's - Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the world will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA) from April 21-28.

Vaccination Week in the Americas is an initiative of the countries of the Region in the Americas, which seeks to revitalize the political commitment to vaccination and promote and maintain a culture of prevention.

The aim is to create a greater awareness of the National Immunization Programme and to educate the public on the importance of immunization.

Superintendent of Public Health Nurses/EPI Manager Coralita Joseph said this year, trailblazing efforts by all the countries and territories of the Americas will make a public health dream come true, as the first World Immunization Week will be launched.

She noted that "such a towering endeavour will provide a crowning significance to the celebration of the 10th Vaccination Week in the Americas (VWA)."

To commemorate the week, the Ministry of Health has organised a number of activities which include:

Saturday, 21st April and Sunday 23rd April, 2012 – letter to be read in all churches.

Monday 23rd April – Opening Ceremony at Browne’s Avenue Clinic.

Tuesday 24th April – Media Programme and Open Day in all Clinics.

Wednesday 25th April - Expanded Programme on Immunization Workshop, Let’s Talk Programme.

Thursday 26th April - Immunization Activity at Schools, The Fiennes Institute and Mental Hospital – Administration of Vaccines.

Friday 27th April – Open Day – Administration of Vaccines

Saturday 28th April – End of Vaccination Week and World Vaccination Week.

The theme for this year is, “For you for me, for everyone. Get vaccinated."
