The Medical Benefits Scheme’s (MBS) first-ever 5K Run/Walk was dubbed a success with its blend of community spirit, health and wellness activities.  Approximately 400 people participated in this event which commenced on Burma Road, just off the former Pitch Restaurant. Professional runners led the pack followed by the amateur runners and then the walkers.

In the male category, Omarie Daniel was the first runner to cross the finish line in 17.27 minutes.  He was first in the overall male category.  In the overall male category, he was followed by Rodriquez Michael at 19.28 minutes and Wayne Henry at 21.05 minutes.

In the female category, Cassie Vatalis was the first female to cross the finish line and second overall.  She completed the run in 18.53 minutes.  In the female overall category, she was followed by Janill Williams at 19.51 minutes and Celisa Maloney at 20.43 minutes.

However, the most persevering runner was Patrice Davis.

Under the walker category the overall female winners were:  third place going to Elka Marsh, an MBS employee, with Kelly Whitehead in second place and Nerissa Pelle in first place.  In this same category, overall male winners were Mikhail Matthias in third place, Savon Bradshaw in second place and Charles “Max” Fernandez in first place.

The winning male walker over the age of 60 was James Sebastian who received a prize for being the oldest participating dad in the MBS 5K Run/Walk. The winning female walker over the age of 60 was Lauretta Swift-Samuel.
