NODS Holds Telecom Training

NODS Holds Telecom TrainingAntigua St John's - Nineteen representatives from various agencies completed a four-day workshop on emergency telecommunications last week.

The sessions, conducted by Director of National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) Philmore Mullin, and ham operators from the Amateur Radio Club Jeff Martin and Leroy Depeiza, ended on Thursday.

Participants were taken through the various aspects of disaster management and basic set-up and operation of VHF, HF, and UHF radios, which are convenient during disasters especially when other means of communication are inoperable.

Among the agencies taking part were the Antigua & Barbuda Defence Force, Coast Guard, the police and fire departments, 911, the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, and NODS.

There were also representatives from Barbuda and the district disaster committees.

Participants described the sessions as very educational, but thought additional time could have been allocated for more hands-on training.
