Wetland, Take Care of Water

Area Close to Devil's BridgeAntigua St. John's - Several agencies led by the Environmental Officer, Khadijah Abdulwudud, the Green Team of the Grand Pineapple Resort, the inclusive of the National Solid Waste Management Authority and the National Parks Authority, are joining forces to clean up the beach and access road south of Devil’s Bridge on Saturday 2nd February (World Wetlands Day).

World Wetlands Day is commemorated on the first Saturday in February each year. It focuses attention on the critical importance of coastal vegetation and wetlands to especially vulnerable islands’ eco-systems.

Antigua’s wetlands continue to suffer degradation posed by illegal dumping of garbage, oil spills and other terrestrial pollutants generated by human activities.

As well as focusing attention on the need to conserve and protect wetlands, World Wetland Day activities encourage concerned citizens as well to be engaged in activities that will clean up coastal vegetation that have been contaminated.

Other participants in this Saturday’s activities will include students from the Willikies School and members of the Willikies community. The theme for this year is: “Wetland, Take Care of Water”.
