Antigua St John's - Red Eye, the Breakfast Fete, will be presenting an award to Rupert "The Mighty Swallow" Philo to mark his 50th anniversary in the music business. The fete will take place next Saturday at the Antigua Recreation Grounds, featuring soca stars from Antigua and Trinidad.

Red Eye annually brings together the finest talents in the soca industry.

“But our success today would not have been possible had it not been for a trailblazer like Swallow,” said Joseph "Jojo’" Apparicio, one of the organisers.

“Swallow cleared the way for other soca artists to follow, as he was creating hits that were rocking parties in Trinidad, the Mecca of soca, and throughout the Caribbean, before CP, Tizzy, and even the Burning Flames came to prominence,” Apparicio said.

Swallow will be presented with the award not only for his golden anniversary, but in tribute and as a mark of respect for the role he has played as an ambassador of Antiguan music.

He will be surrounded by a family of local and regional soca artists who have all been impacted by his music in some way. They include Claudette "CP" Peters and her Taxic band, Tanzania "Tizzy" Sebastian and El-a-Kru, Jashan Hughes and Chezecake Factory, and Ricardo Drue, all from Antigua.
