Antigua St John's - Time Out Productions (TOPS) is set to launch a singing competition called The Voice, designed to celebrate youths and their enormous talent and creativity.
The aim, according to organisers, is to identify and promote the talent pool within the secondary schools across Antigua and Barbuda. Voice Antigua will be built into a concert series which will highlight the musical talent in seven of the biggest secondary schools.
It will be staged within the first six months of 2012. Scott Brodie, producer of The Voice and director of TOPS, has partnered with Principal Collin Green of the Princess Margaret School, the first participating school. Chosen Sounds Studios is an associated partner, responsible for auditions as well as judging.
Auditions began at the school on Friday, January 20, with over 120 students registering. The level of talent in the nation's biggest secondary school has been overwhelming, with voices of all genres and styles of music.
Scott Brodie and Omari Harrigan of Chosen Sounds Studios both said they were very pleased with the top 32 students who advanced to the semi-finals, to be held on January 27 at the school's auditorium.
Halfway through the semi-finals, Brodie said, “Our young people are not the future because they are young, but because they are the most talented and prepared." A crowd of 500 students, past and present, were part of the viewing audience that remained riveted to the performance of each individual student, their stage, vocal and musical performance mesmerizing, pulsating and confident, each vying for a place in the finals.
Speaking of confidence, what was even more surprising at the semi finals were students who performed original songs that they had written. Usually, singing original songs in a talent competition is considered high risk, due to lack of familiarity, styling, form and subject matter of song.
TOPS will be producing the PM School Voice Finals as a full concert/ block party that will carry a Blue Jeans Dress code theme. The Blue Jeans Block Party will feature; The Voice Finalists and will be supported by a cast of Antigua’s most Positive Entertainers. The Voice Finals and Blue Jeans Block Party will be held on Friday February 17 from 3 pm to 9:30 pm. Hilda Davis Drive will be closed to traffic to accommodate the stage.
TOPS has received the endorsement of the Ministry of Education and Crime Stoppers Antigua for the concert series.
The admission for the concert is $10, with proceeds going towards the music and art programmes of the Princess Margaret School. Principal Green said he was pleased with The Voice auditions, its overall progress, and events production.
Sponsors of the Voice Event are Mega Distributors - agents for Solo, Blue Mountain Water, and Xtra Malt, Antigua Business Complex, Chosen Sounds Studios, GK Productions, Art Gallery, Variety Radio, ZDK, KFC, Supreme Security, Photo Express, Antigua Rain Forrest Canopy Tours, Deluxe Cinemas, Zemi Art Gallery, Wadadli Cats, Sarah Fuller & Gilly Gobinet, Raeburn Generator Services, LEAD Entertainment, and Sign Tech.

RE: Singing Competition to be Launched

The Fight is on....Where's your VOICE?
The Church organization says "Stand Out" lets promote Godly values and respect for your teachers and your peers. The Secular organization says "The Voice" ...lets get you singing with the organization. There is just TOO much secularization of our youth. We need to promote things that address the "Spirit" of our youth!!
Lady Wisdom is at home in an understanding heart - fools never even get to say hello. God-devotion makes a country strong; God-avoidance leaves people weak. (Proverbs 14:33-34 Message Bible)
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known. Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.(Proverb s 14:33-34 King James)
wake up!
