Antigua St John's - Saturday October 29 2011 will mark a special date in the annals of Antigua & Barbuda music – and not just because that day commemorates the birth of Promise (No Promises): musician, composer, performer and now bandleader.
The time is 2.00 pm. The place is right outside THE SOURCE on Redcliffe Street. On Saturday October 29, at that time and place, Promise throws the biggest birthday bash of his musical career (so far).
Supported by a kaleidoscope of musical and performing talent, Promise celebrates not only his birthday but also the double launch of his new band “CIRCLE OF FIRE” as well as their new album – Promise’s latest and greatest - “DO GOOD”.
Appearing live last Tuesday on the Colin Sampson Show the accomplished and well-travelled artiste bubbled over with enthusiasm for this latest phase in a musical career replete with bold initiatives.
Fortunate enough to discover his innate musical talents early in life, the young singer (who always showed promise) was challenged from the very outset to abandon any thought of depending on “other people’s songs” as a route to stardom.
Promise vividly describes how, while performing on stage at a talent show, the microphone was suddenly wrenched from his hand. An unidentified adult member of the audience, overcome – as was the entire gathering - by the youngster’s stellar talent, earnestly enjoined the aspiring performer never again to insult his God-given gift by singing the work of other artistes.
The ambitious young singer took the advice to heart. From that moment on, says Promise, he dedicated himself to a life of composing and performing his own original music and taking it to the world.
It is a quest that has taken Promise from the street corner jams of St. Johns to the streets and nightclubs of Europe. Promise soon found that his manifest musical talent and on-stage appeal brought his name to the attention of agents and impresarios in diverse markets. Never one to be bashful about things, the future star seized all available opportunities with both hands. Earlier than many would have expected promise was making the rounds of the European circuit, making a name for himself and acquiring valuable experience.
Having built up a sizable and enthusiastic following the widely capable Promise (he composes and performs everything from calypso to reggae to hip-hop and everything in between) is about to unleash his latest coup.
Backed by his own band “CIRCLE OF FIRE”, Promise will take advantage of his birthday (Saturday October 29) to launch the band’s initial collaborative effort. The album, entitled “DO GOOD”, covers the entire spectrum of popular music genres and is certain to delight the musical palate of listeners world-wide.
Supporting Promise and “CIRCLE OF FIRE” will be a stellar line-up of popular entertainers, bands and performers. Fans, friends, entertainment seekers and music lovers who congregate in the vicinity of THE SOURCE on Redcliffe Street on Saturday October 29 will be treated to the best of Hard Knoxx & Juggle For Life, Kayode Erasto, Tian Winter, Carlos Turner, Blac Truc, Bless Iye, Fucha Kid & Federation Family, Drastic, Amanda Tappin and Thalia King.
