Carnival's Big Wins

PM-with-WangaThe Revellers Mas troupe and the Burning Flames were the big winners on Carnival Tuesday as they walked away with two of the most coveted prizes.

Revellers, celebrating their 35th year of mas, under the guidance of Colin "Wanga" Martin, won the band of the year title yet again, while the Burning Flames were the road march winners for their song, Bullbud.

It was played 72 times on the road, while the Red Hot Flames’ Wootup was played 60 times for the first runner up spot. Red Hot also got second runner up with a rising favourite, Hitman.

In the band of the year competition, Revellers, playing a mas called Revellers in Retrospect - in observance of their 35th year - won the band of the year (large band), beating out Dynamics, who played Celebration. Solid International, which portrayed the Road to Bharat, was adjudged second runner up.

In the senior medium bands tropical fantasy category, Dynamics were the winner, leaving the first runner up spot to Solid International, while Silkdus placed 2nd runner up with their portrayal of At the End of the Rainbow.

In the senior Carnival tropical fantasy, Revellers won, while the first runner up went to Myst playing Paparazzi.forrester-revellers

In the small band category, tropical fantasy, the Vitus Mas troupe was adjudged the winner, playing Pied Piper, while Pure Passion was first runner up for De ja vu and second runner up went to Exoitic Mas for Lost at Sea.

Ali and Associates won band of the year in medium bands for Reflections of Haiti Incandescent Rex, while Fantasy 268 won first runner up with We come to Play. African Gems, playing Mas and Culture, won second runner up.

Wadadli Madness won the small band contest, as it portrayed For your Eyes Only, while Sensay of the Dominica Cultural Divas placed first runner up.

Colour Revolution won the mini bands competition with a display called Oriental, while Merry Makers won first runner up with Rise of the Great Song Empire.

For the opening parade, Scotia won the float competition, with the AIDS Secretariat placing first runner up and Costume Island Antigua getting second runner up.


The Source Blue Devils won most of the prizes for J’ouvert morning, getting first j’ouvert troupe on the road, first hifi on the road with Chiki’s Hifi and first Iron Band on the road with the Point Iron Band. Other winners on J’ouvert were Best Behaved Troupe, Wadadli Brew Masters and best advertisted troupe, Ants. Hellsgate was first steelband on the road while Tonic was first Jam Band. Taxik was judged the Sweetest jam band on the road while West Side Symphony took that prize in the steel band category.

In the T-shirt mas, Joe Mike's were winners while Extreme placed first runner up. The second runner up was Myst Carnival Inc.

Congratulations to Wanga and the Revellers Mas troupe!!! Hopefully, this is the PM's last year of playing mas with Revellers. He is just out of shape, and needs to lose that big blue belly.
