Exciting newcomer Ricardo Drue will open things up in the Groovy segment of the Lime Party Monarch competition, while the returning undefeated monarch, Claudette "CP" Peters, will bring the curtains down in the jumpy segment in the highly anticipated contest this Saturday.
The finalists in what is being billed as the biggest show this year drew for their places on Tuesday at the LIME retail store in the Woods Mall.
While Drue gets the party started with his song, Like Glue, he is followed by another exciting newcomer, Drastic, with his popular tune, Sugary Waistline. Both artists have made an immediate impression with their first shot at the soca scene in Antigua.
In the number three position is veteran Lion King, singing I Don’t Care, followed by the reigning monarch, Tian Winter, singing It’s Your Wine.
The night will be kept grooving with Lord Satelite, singing Jam in Line. Yoko, of Pumpstan and Yoko fame, is next with another popular tune, Put on Your Condom, with the consistent Super Mario coming in at number seven to sing Jammin, followed by another newcomer, Lyrical Redz, with a favourite among soca fans this year, Plantain.
CP is in an at number nine with the driving groove, Still Jammin, while up and coming soca star Laurena of the Tonic Band ends the segment singing Baby.
Satalyte opens the jumpy segment with his humorous Throat Cancer, while Laurena follows with another hit from the Tonic Band, Ready Now.
Former Soca Monarch Mervyn "Sleepy" Edwards sings Ole in the third position, while Hard Knox, another newcomer to the stage, will perform Knuckle Family in the fourth position. Singing fifth is Samoya Kirby, returning to the finals for the second year in a row, with Raging Bull, while Drue, in the sixth position, looks to Get Wild.
