carnival city

#6 carvaa » 2011-03-29 21:56

ABS TV advertise most of the other islands carnival or shows, presently i think they are running St Vincent mass. I often wonder if our carnival and shows are being advertise on the other islands tv stations.
I think the shows at carnival city need to go a little later, people come home to party and i think carnival city could be the biggest party lime. You come in town around 11: 30 pm on some nights and carnival city is completely dark, the show that night is already over and it's still to early for Lions.
There was a time when you come in town at around one and carnival city still swinging and with the gates open i could sit at any of the bars and have a few drinks before heading to Lions. I guess the crime wave stop all that but carnival week or week-end is a no sleep party , don't worry about us the mass players if there is a fete at carnival we gonna find it.
Give thanks to Spliff Bar.

My Thoughts exactly

#5 Narr back down » 2011-03-28 07:51

I certainly agree with National... Its becoming more and more prevalent on the Monarch Shows. CP and a few of these artistes, even Tian I remember. They were talking to the crowd on the mic and doing all their stage antics but yet you could still hear them singing in the background. Sometimes you dont even know if they really singing. I remember one of them handed over the mic and went off the stage at the end and the CD was still playing over the band to finsh off the song. I am not standing for that this year. These entertainers like CP have lovely voices, why cheat us and the other genuine perfromers like that. ONLY LIVE PERFORAMNCES THIS YEAR.... Carnival Committee YOU BETTER LISTEN. No background CD.

what's up with that?

CDC ,do you really believe that participants should pay to take part in carnival? what you need to do is to raise the standard of the shows. I was in Antigua last year for carnival, and what I saw was a distant Cousin of the Carnivals in the 70's and80's. Think of the supporting show at both Queen shows. That's right, there was none. Bring back the" TEST PIECE" in the Steel band competition and the "JUMPY"second round of calypso. Just a few ideas. Charging a fee to participate is driving the final nail in the coffin.

Promote Our Carnival

#2 Dig It » 2011-03-27 23:36

I don't really about these changes because it does not do much promote the Monarch or our Carnival! With three to four months to go and we don't even have a website up and running to attract visitors! Namba and the CDC should be ashamed of themselves! I suspect he is entering the Monarch competition this year, due to the changes. Yet, Namba, please don't make a fool of yourself this year because I heard the audience will not be so nice again with you missing your notes on stage several times! National, I feel your sentiment! We don't need to a CD on playing stage for some artists, while others singing well without it! It kills the spirit of Carnival!

One more change

#1 National » 2011-03-27 21:23

Why is it that some of the Soca Artistes have pre-recorded vocals (aka "Sampling") being played on stage as backup during their performances? Whats the purpose of live backup singers, isnt this a live performance? It defeats the purpose of them showing their singing and performing talents and also it is unfair to the other artistes who go up there and sing their heart out to entertain the people. With this prerecorded vocals there dont actually complete their lines and verses because the mixer cuts in where they leave off. Last year I admired Shani and Laurene (dont know if I got the names right) You could hear them gving it their all and breathing as they entertained the crowd. The CDC needs to look at this cause I as a spectator dont need to pay my money to hear a CD playing on stage. Foolishness !!! I admire the Burning Flames fellas so much cause they do it naturally everytime for more than two decades.
