Namba At Odds With Kayode

J'ouvert 2012Antigua, St. John's - A controversial proposal is being considered by the minister responsible for Carnival, Eleston Adams, which could see the annual J'ouvert celebration moved from the city to the vicinity of Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds.

Minister Adams on Thursday told State television he is giving "active consideration" to the idea, which should not be decided by the organising committee for carnival.

"I'm looking at it. There's a lot of people out there who are asking why we don't look at having it at the stadium," he said, stressing this is not a done deal.

"It has to be looked at carefully. I know it would be easier to control the criminal elements  during that time, because you don't have much places to run and hide, and the security forces would be able to move around in that circle to keep the criminals at bay."

The route for J'ouvert 2012 was shortened this year to facilitate the smoother flow of bands.

Minister Adams said official Independence Day activities staged at the stadium for the first time this year proved a success, though there was resistance from some people.

Meantime, he has informed the members of the Carnival Development Committee that their tenure is up.

"As far as I am concerned, it's a year that was given and it's time to sit down and determine whether the Committee will remain as it is, or whether it will be taken over by the Festivals Office; because, as I said, the appointment was for a year and that time is up," he stated.

Adams said he intends to meet with the substantive minister responsible for Carnival, John Maginley, to discuss policy directives in relation to the summer festival.

He also indicated that friction still exists with the CDC, including Committee chairman Kayode O'Marde, who has said he will deliver his report on Carnival 2012 to the prime minister.

"As far as I'm concerned, if the chairman is saying he's going to be taking it to the prime minister, you have to raise your eyebrow and wonder what is happening,"  Adams said further.

Points: Namba did not appoint Kayode - Baldwin did and Cabinet agreed. Namba is not a member of Cabinet so he was informed. In fact I heard Namba wanted Dave Lester Pain of ABS TV to be the chair....maybe that's why Dave always interviewing him?

WHat Namba need to realize is that for the first time in over twenty years - all prize monies have been paid to participants in Carnival and if government release the funds all other people will be paid to - Kayode tired write letters and cuss to get the monies.......an d the big question is DID KAYODE REFUSE TO GIVE THE TWO MINISTERS OVER 100 ADDITIONAL TICKETS WHEN THEY REQUESTED?

LMAO the comment below by smh makes me feel that the chairman tek he xxxx. Utter lies and mistruths about the young man. I was on a Carnival committee this year and Kayode was the easiset chairman to work with - all the committees agree and the festival office has reported time and time again what a joy it was to work with him. So telling lies on people behind a fake name is laughable!

#20 rupert j. » 2012-12-28 18:41

Mamba need to stop thinking that he is somekind of a brainiac when the majority of Antiguans know differently, he need to stop interjecting himself into things and leave people brains to what they were appointed to do and that is to run the carnival and also to try and improve the product.

Well let's look at this this carefully. Minister and the chairman not getting along so how can there be a successful carnival? Anyway the way how I look at this The minister of carnival is not a dictatorial position so he has to work with the carnival committee and everyone involved before making these types of decisions. Sounds like a micro manager to me. One suggestion I have is to shorten the carnival. Carnival is a business and if the committee is always broke, they should find some way to make it a little more manageable.

Namba, you should bring all of carnival to Sir Viv Grounds. It would surely end up like the Recreation Grounds.Dirty and run down, not fit for International sporting activities.I would go to other islands to watch Test cricket.I am being sarcastic, keep your dumb political backsides out of carnival. Please let the man Kayode do his job.He was selected to be the chairman of carnival. You are not the minister in charge of carnival.Whenev er you are involved things seems to get too complicated.Sta y to heck out and let the experts do thier jobs.

who appointed him

#16 tenman » 2012-12-28 13:16

As far as I have read (Walter Resigns from CDC,29 February 2012 By Everton Barnes) it is Namba who selects the CDC chair and the heads of sub-committees responsible for the various Carnival activities. Reading past articles it seems that Namba always has problems with persons on the CDC. Is it a case where they find it difficult to respect him? Could this be because Namba's bosses also seem to have little respect for him?

As for Interested (the rep for MP Magineley) suggestion that Namba appeal to Maginley for help: Hasn't there been talk, in the past, that a big part of Namba's problem include MP. Maginley? I know MP Maginley in the past has tried to suggest there is no rift (Maginley Denies Contention Rumours 14 February 2011 06:55 By Alex Holder). However, the denial seems similar to Max Hurst's suggestion, some months before the ALP convention, that there were no rifts in the ALP

Clean up J'Ouvert in General!!

#15 SPEED BUMP » 2012-12-28 12:33

Is this the best carnival/Jouver t picture the editor could find in his kit. The photo is an eyesore. There a hundreds of more colorful/beauti ful Jouvert photos.

If I was in Adams position my first order would be to introduce a more organized type of dancing into Jouvert. This wild stuff is getting out of control and it is picked up by the little kids. The goal should be to improve the morality of the country, therefore, the children need to be fed with a cleaner product. The Vitus Mass Camp made a fairly good attempt at it.

I would even consider taking the wild stuff out of the city (per the article) but promote the more organized dancing activities on the city streets. For example, on Labor Day some go to Fort James and some go to Fryers Bay to avoid conflict. Same thinking applies here. It will bring more people from the country to town on Jouvert morning because it is the same wildness that keep them from coming in the first place. Who knows, we may eve see a few church groups participating in Jouvert with this strategy.

This is new to me but I am not "surprise" because of the type of leadership running Carnival! As far as I know, the only person that is "proposing" to move J'ouvert celebration to SVRCG is Namba himself and his alter-ego! This Bxxxy Qxxxn really thinks he is "De Spirit of Carnival."

I agree with Namba........Ka yode and his team are a 'committee' of the Minister not a statutory board. This point was made by Neil Cochrane sometime ago and he said he never had a problem working with the former Minister because they worked together. Kayode does not seem to want to work with any Minister..... That cannot be the right approach. Stay strong Namba and I appeal to Minister Maginley to support you in this matter.

We all know that Namba is a joke. We all know that the only reason he is still there is because of the slim majority held by the UPP. We all know that Baldwin was about to remove him and then the Vote of No Confidence came up and Baldwin had to back down.
If he has to keep him, why not just put him in charge of the Post Office?

Adams is Right

#5 Watchful » 2012-12-28 07:56

Minister Adams in principle is correct that it appears "eye brow raising" or in other words a deliberate insult to deliver the Carnival 2012 report directly to the Prime Minister by-passing the two Ministers who have direct responsibilty for this portfolio! This is smacks of sheer rudeness and disrespect! But then again, the corrupt UPP Mal-Administrat ion is well known to have have different cl** of Brothers and sisters within their organisation. Those who are highly favored like the Carnival Chairman, and those who are there to make up numbers like Minister Adams. This is the true meaning of the Prime Ministers's remarks about deviding the sheep from the goats! His stament was meant to say we have two cl** of people in our society, the the upper class which he supports, and the lower class which he loathes and disrespects!

Namba at odds with the world

#4 Real Observer » 2012-12-28 07:18

Is there anyone with whom Namba is not at odds? He appears to be on a crusade to win enemies and offend any and everybody.
Just last night he hosted his annal Christmas party while the Liberta community hosted a homecoming event at the school. Residents expressed anger over the timing and insensitivity and for the mst part boycotted the party. Unapologetic over his actions he reminded several residents that he lost the Liberta vote to Chet Greene and therefore was uxxx no oxxxx to rxxxxt anything in the village.
He is also at odds with the Old Road Football Club after failing to deliver on a promise of $25,000.00. To date not a cent was paid. Even the PM gets his wack from this awkward, bxxx baxxn and cabinet colleagues are almost daily on the receiving of his tirades.
Kayode, don't feel badly son, you are just another target in Namba's one man against the world crusade. Poor fellow just waiting for the Gwassa bus

Namba, not this year too: Shut Up!

#3 Sof Fireworks » 2012-12-28 06:58

Oh Lordy Lordy..... NAMABA and his bad ideas them AGAIN?!!? If it's not his silly suggestion to move Soca Monarch to the Sunday night, its something else.

Namba needs to accept that Kayode and his Team are the new stewards of Carnival, and no one, including the PM is gonna change that to return of Carnival to the likes of you. The hard truth is, the only reason our even a Minister, or a 'Parliamentary Secretary' rather is because PM has a thin lead in Parliament and needs to give you a job to keep you at bay.
So Stop charading like your this competent individual that Antigua adores.

Kayode can't say it, so: NO!! - we're not moving Jouvert (we walk down after Calypso Monarch every year),... NO - we not moving Soca to the sunday night..... NO - the CDC isn't going to change (even though Tian has an unfair advantage).... and NO - we don't need anymore ideas from you.

So please be quiet, collect your salary for doing nothing and Go Kick Rocks to keep you busy when bored. Or you could even lend your voice on things more important like the selling of passport legislation he UPP is about to pass.

Minister Adams needs to keep the hell out of Carnival. He has made no real contribution to the Summer Festival except for creating unnecessary controversy and chatting pure rubbish. The Prime Minister needs to review this situation. The present CDC is a good committee and needs to be left alone to continue their job.
