CDC On Track To Clear 2012 Debts

CDC On Track To Clear 2012 Debts Antigua St. John’s - The Carnival Development Committee (CDC) is moving swiftly to meet all its financial obligations incurred for staging the 2012 Carnival festivities.

Late payments of prize monies and other payments to both carnival participants and service providers have plagued the CDC in the past, and this year the problem even threatened the successful staging of the festival.

CDC member and Financial Advisor Claude Anthony said a significant amount of payments has already been made to both service providers and artistes for Carnival 2012.

“We have been able to achieve something that has eluded CDCs in the past, in that we gave a commitment that we will pay all our bills within a 90-day period and so far we are ahead of schedule with respect to this commitment,” he said on Thursday.

According to Anthony, most of the small service providers to the CDC have been paid as well as more than 50 percent of those with large contracts with the CDC. Additionally, he added that by the end of August both the LIME Party Monarch competitors and the Wadadli Beer Calypso Monarch finalists will all be paid.

The announcement of the payments came as the committee staged a live television presentation at Harney Motors Ltd., title sponsor of the Queen of Carnival Pageant, during which prizes where presented to several winners of Carnival 2012.

Among those receiving prizes were the 2012 Calypso Monarch, Keithroy “De Bear” Morson, and the Queen of Carnival, Ranee Laronde, who was presented with her main prize, a 2012 Kia Rio motor car compliments of Harney Motors.

No figures of the amounts of money paid out so far were presented, but a CDC member credited the improvements in sponsorship by the business community for enabling the committee to achieve this goal. He noted that this year, all six contestants in the Queen of Carnival pageant were fully sponsored. This compares favourably with carnivals 2010 and 2011 when the CDC was unable to attract sponsors and thus had to sponsor all the contestants in the pageant.

According to the official, the monies that would have been spent on sponsorship were now being spent on paying out prize monies and other financial commitments.

This great news ,however the present CDC is still covering up the past chairman bad job, they are not telling people that alot of 2011 bills are still outstanding. How can you pay all your present bills and leave the outstanding one? IS not our fault that they mismanage( xxxx) the money. Why do we have to suffer?

Great News

If this is true, this is great news. In years gone by, people who had provided services, goods, and even the winners themselves would see the year come and go without getting paid, sometimes even leading up to the next Carnival and STILL not being paid.

As much fire as the new CDC chairman has been getting, the fact that the people who are OWED money are actually being paid ON TIME is refreshing. Keep it up guys.
