How do you investigate something that you are standing there and watching? CDC members were not in Timbuktu, they have to be backstage. I have been at shows backstage and there is no way to miss a commotion going on there, it is too small an area.

TIan's claim is from somone telling him to go and protect himself, the only way to do that is to say he was threatened. The complaint was made on Sunday, not Saturday. There is no way to give the CDC a pass on this, they should have rules for immediate disqualificatio n, no questions asked.

What happened, happened on Saturday night, CDC is supposed to have rules that govern what goes on backstage at their events. YD was arrested on Sunday night, not Saturday when the fracas occured, police are always backstage at these events, why wasn't a complaint filed then? why wasn't he arrested then?

Come on Teneman they let it go on Saturday and then decided on Sunday that Tian was threatened. It doesn't make sense. You really believe that the police and CDC members missed what was going on backstage on Saturday. Are you kidding me?

If YD had a busted up face, nobody saw that backstage, again are you kidding. The CDC is cupable in this, noway they and the police missed all of this, somebody busted up his face, unless he did it to himself.

I must admit that I was truly surprised at how quickly the Police moved to arrest Young Destroyer, yet, the couple out in English Harbour whose home was burglarized and had items stolen from them has gotten the run-around for weeks. What is wrong with this picture? Every citizen deserves the same respect from the Police I guess finding YD didn't require any work as they knew exactly where he was.

Sadly, our young calypsonians have turned a different direction, as to what the true nature of competition is or carnival! I have seen calypsonians getting "taunted" on stage through quarter and semi-finals throughout the years, and, have managed to "stay-the course" in performing, or even go there way after the shows. I have even heard calypsonians getting their "wardrobe" stolen back-stage, fights between entourages of some calypsonians, and, yes, the amount of "obeah" that occurred back there as well. Personally, I prefer to not go back-stage because of the "Biggest Crapo" I ever saw under a step, while a friend and fellow calypsonian was getting ready to take the stage, a few years ago. Yet, the "actions" of a few shouldn't put a "dark-cloud" on the artform! I have heard differing views on both sides between TW and YD, and, believe measures need to put in place to stop the "foolishness!" Where is the CDC? Tenman, if threre is any, it would interested to know what "penalties" would be imposed, upon investigation?

Well, I'm utterly convinced that the dunceness 'tun-up' in Antigua. The more mouths that open is the more people actually reveal how idiotic they are.

I would really like to know how many of you would have someone threaten your life and NOT report the matter to the police? I would like to know how many of you would have someone invade your personal space and NOT knock them out of it?

As I read the comments made, I would like to know how many of you have facts to back up what your saying. Nancy, seems like you specialize in character defamation. Have you ever taken your 2 eyes and seen Tian in any compromising position with any man? I'm pretty sure the answer to this is a resounding NOT. It appears as if you and many others alike like to carry around people's name in your mouth but I wish many of you would just choke everytime you make a degrading statement about someone without the facts to back them up.

I would really like to know what has this young man ever done to anyone other than make GOOD music or made something of himself.

Avid Reader, trying my best to stay out of this discussion but you keep suggesting that the CDC has power over the police. The articles I have read state that a report was made to the police by Mr. Winter just after 7PM (the night of the monarch show see http://www.caribarena.com/antigua/entertainment/carnival/101244-young-destroyer-in-police-custody-family-cries-foul.html). All evidence point to it being the police decision to allow him to perform before picking him up for questioning. Imagine the cry if they had brought YD in for questioning before he had performed. Avid Reader, if you were to go to the police and report a threat especially one where violence was involved, don't you think they should investigate the matter? As far as CDC disqualifying anyone, they would have needed time to fully investigate the matter, or they would have been subjected to a law suit for not facilitating natural justice. The CDC should (they may not be) be currently investigating the matter and looking at imposing penalties to prevent a future repeat

I think the judges for certain carnival shows should be brought in from other islands.Every year the same old complaint,poor judgements for the shows.Based on my observations,I have listened keenly to the calypso show and the song that the king sang is not worth the crown.The song about Zacari should be sang in a tent,good for that venue.It is not a crown winning song.My favorite song is "thin skin,pinch them,ouch".That is a calypso,humor with a story line.That is calypso,I do not want to hear about social commentary.What the heck is that anyway.I listen to calypso for entertainment,n ot to be educated.So what it is worth put your social commentary in a pipe and pretend it is something and smoke it.Hope you folks had a good carnival with plenty of ENGLISH HARBOR RUM,THE 5 YEAR ONE WITH SOME COKE OVER ICE.WHAT A DRINK MY FAVORITE ONE WHEN I COME DOWN.MY PLANS ARE TO MOVE THE ANTIGUA DISTILLERY TO THE USA FOR ME AND MY BUDDIES.DRIVE SAFELY DOWN THERE.DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.

I am writing this letter with shame and amazement .
I was recently the victim of a TIAN WINTER FAN at Soca Monarch 2k12.
The young lady in a pink and black Tian shirt and pink pants attacked me for voicing my opinion that I believed Tian should not have won both groovy and jumpy segments. The young lady took it upon herself to slam me to the ground and beat me senseless. I do admit to have started the fight by accidentally pulling her long black hair but the light skin young lady took it too far. I have bruises on my face and both eyes are swollen even my ribs are bruised.
Even though in size i was much larger, this young lady should learn to respect her elders.
What disappointed me the most was that no one aided me and the police did nothing?
This young lady was disrespectful! I want to announce that Antigua has FREE OF SPEECH! So stop fighting for this artist that doesn’t care or even know you!
I for one refuse to argue with anyone anymore about artists. Peace for Carnival.

I am so in agreement with you, his mother is right. Let the CDC turn over the judging sheets for the night, they had no right to let him start in the competition and then arrest him for what happened the night before.

Both parties if anything should have been arrested and disqualified, this arrest, like it or not was a disqualificatio n of Young Destroyer only. It boggles my mind that YD is sueing someone for wrongs committed against him. Isn't he afraid of giving his victims ideas. Suppose they all decide to engage legal firms to file civil suits.

Ok ppl lets look at this from a different prospective. I was back stage the night of the competition and close enough to hear and see certain things. However, I will keep my opinion to myself. The question I seek the answer for is why theses two participants were not disqualified for breaking the rules of the competition/cod e of conduct of the completion (disorderly conduct, conduct against the sprite of the completion, fighting before judges decision was handed in). Its there in black and white all the artist knows this…but no one wants to speak or should I say “bell the cat”.

Caribarena, I think there is a story in this one for your investigative journalists. Right is Right and wrong is wrong. Please probe CDC for a copy of the rule/code of conduct for the Soca Monarch Completion. If not I am pretty sure one of the participants would gladly hand it over to you.

The answers here are so outrageous, it is claimed that Tian's people beat up YD, everybody thinks that he deserves this beating because of what he did before. Why was he taken away from the Sunday calypso performance ? couldn't they have waited?

CDC has a lot to answer for here, what goes on backstage is their responsibilty. Sometimes I fail to understand the conscious of Antigua people, if Tian is responsible, he should not be allowed to get away with anything because what happened was reprehensible.

Why am I NOT surprised at this? I am sick and tired of reading all this BS...why is YD riding along the pity train all of a sudden? From ever since, YD has felt he is this 'big bad wolf' and everyone should be or is afraid of him. If he hadn't done what he did then he wouldn't have gotten what he got. Tian stood up to him and defended himself. It seems as if self defense is a crime in this country. Firstly, no one can tell me that if you know someone to be a certain type of person, that it would not colour your opinion of any situation that person may become involved in. Do people really expect police who have experienced young destroyer and his agressive ways not to handle him with bias? It's like saying not to approach with caution a dog that is known for biting people or a person known for usually being armed. Secondly, his parent need to just get a grip! If she had xxxxd her son xxxt instead of xxxxxg him in xxxg since he was a xxxxd, I am willing to bet money that he would be a much better person today. My personal experience with Young destroyer showed me a spoilt young man with a sense of entitlement. hmmmmmmm I wonder who he got that from? Finally, I am of the opinion that justice should be unbiased and serve all fairly, however, most days it is not, and Mr. destroyer jr. maybe it's karma for all the s&*t you've gotten away with.
