CP Ponders Her Future

Party Monarch winner Claudette Antigua St. John's - This country's most decorated Party Monarch winner Claudette "CP" Peters is considering staying out of next year's competition to focus on her international career.

At the same time, CP made it clear she will still contribute to the annual festivity even if she does decide to call it quits.

"I need to make sure I could touch the world stage as well. I need to be on par with the Destras and the Bunjis. It really takes a lot out of you just to prepare for the party monarch show and you could be focusing on something else. That doesn't mean I'm not going to make my contribution to carnival though," the soca queen said.

According to CP, she was considering her options prior to Saturday's Soca Monarch competition in which she did not place.

Since 2005, she has won both Jumpy and Groovy crowns four times.

And as she ponders her future, the soca diva issued words of advice to her colleagues in the wake of the fracas between Tian Winter and Young Destroyer.

"I think that some of the artistes need to take a page out of my book where good sportsmanship is concerned because there was quite a bit of things happening the morning of the show that was uncalled for. At the end of the day, the world stage is where it's at," she cautioned.

"You cannot do stuff like that on island and expect to get the respect you deserve, so humble your heart - trust in God," she concluded.

The police, having arrested Young Destroyer based on a report by Winter, are investigating the incident.

@Emperah you said "CP has made Antigua a staple in the soca industry" ... I guess you were just born in 2000 and you obviously never heard of Swallow or the Burning Flames ... travel outside of Antigua (not Dominica) and tell me how many soca lovers know about CP ... go to Toronto Caribana, Miami Carnival, Labour Day in Brooklyn and tell me how many times you hear any CP song from a float that is not Antiguan ... I will wait for your answer ... since she put Antigua on the soca map ... and which song of hers was the one that took off internationally ?

I really don't know what to think of what she said. And my mother always told me, if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. I am more fascinated with the picture. And her wide her mouth is open. My ears hurt now. :(

#18 GLADFUHYUH » 2012-08-10 10:30

I too was a Claudette Peters Fan. I have had the opportunity of working with her on a few small occasions. One thing i have learnt is fans will be fans. The like the personality of artists they see on stage. The crumble from the blissful smiles and warm hugs they get. But they have NO CLUE as to who that individual really is and even more so them seemingly forget that these persons are humans just like the rest of us. NOT GOD! I can go ALL IN on Miss Peters by sharing FACTS of how SHE destroyes her OWN career due to her DRAMA STARTER, xxxUL, xxxxxxT, DxxxxS AND BAD xxxxxD TxxxxS to name a few but everyone would probably jump down my throat and call it propoganda. The people who NEED to know better KNOW better and will probably laugh or let off one BIG CHUPS from like i did.

In reference to her being a good sportsman...If that were only so. Its a pity you didn't remember those words of wisdom while you and Tizzy were going through your fracas. Have you forgotten the incidents where you allowed your name to be dragged and hence your respect level thrown down? Lady Continue to attempt to fool the public. More and More your complexion is being exposed. All the best.

(Un)Fair Antigua

#17 EMPERAH » 2012-08-10 10:03

Firstly, i am so disgusted with how ungrateful Antiguans are. This lady has put her all into carnival for years. She has anti-fans who LEGITIMATELY hate her. She has made Antigua a staple in the soca industry and because she decides to call it quits and focus on HER she is getting chastised. Tizzy has been out of competition since 2007 (and she WAS NOT robbed. If anyone was robbed it would've been Krokus) and you don't complain. SHE EVEN DID THE THE UNTHINKABLE AND DID NOT APPEAR BUT ONCE FOR CARNIVAL.

Secondly, the following statement is wrong in so many ways:
What is she talking about ... Bunji and Destra enter their local competitions in T&T. So does the Soca King of the world Machel Montano. It's only her and Tizzy talking this foolishness. They can't take licks. Although Tizzy got robbed her last year.

Bunji has been out of the competition for the past 2 years, Destra has only returned recently and Machel returned in the past 2 years (hence the reason he was rewarded with 3 crowns, not to mention the rise in prize money).
Know your facts before you blurt out nonsense.

CP ponders future

#16 Antigua 268 » 2012-08-10 08:34

CP has made tons of bad decisions over the years, and whoever is her adviser is not doing a good job. If you recall, the last time she wanted to call it quits was when she was beaten by Tian, and now she didn't even place in the section she dominated for four consecutive years, she has the quits story again. It's all good if she wants to try something else, but I'm not sure how far that will get her. In reference to the comment about "Sleeping" artists hogging her popularity and riding her back, you really understand what you are saying? Every artists is their own, what performing with another artist has to do with her individual performance. If anything she was being pushed, getting her songs written for her and encouraged to be a great artist. You remember him wining for 3 consecutive years? CP only has one year extra over him. They were a team. When they performed, who dominated the performances? Who sang the most songs? You realized he mostly backed her up? Her fame was built with and through him. He's not there anymore and things haven't been all that great for her, so tell me, who's hogging her popularity and riding on her back now??? All I can say is CP I wish you well.

#12 Wadadli Blogger » 2012-08-09 15:01

I have to big up the Natural Rampler ... he got robbed BIG TIME with Papi ... did he give up? No he keep coming for the fans.

Tizzy also got robbed it was all good for CP then. But Tizzy couldn't take it and she gave up. How has her career gone in Antigua or internationally since?

But as soon as CP get licks ... it's not fun anymore ... it's not about her fans who come and support her anymore ... now it's all about her and her "international" career.

If CP had released her songs earlier she would of had a better chance but Tian got all the air play, show play, and his song was even used for a radio commercial that was on every station 20 times a day.

Well let me tell CP this ... if you think your international career is gonna take off by using Faye Ann's regected songs then Good Luck. Just come back and show what your really made of!!! Antigua Carnival deserves better treatment from you after all it has given you. I thought you were our Soca Queen.

#10 young analyst » 2012-08-09 14:30

CP year after year you crumbled from the pressure of your fans to compete, now you see what they are saying, "you should have stopped long time" . The truth is they may be right you could have stop competing and turn your focus internationally , however it think there could have been a balance with both markets. On the positive side nothing beats a try unless you fail to try, so go take up that flag of ours and do your thing.

I hope Antigua people just stop support them since they don't wanna support our Soca Monarch competition.

How are we gonna make it compete with the other Carnivals if we don't have our best artists competing?

Can you imagine how BIG our show will be world wide if we had Onyan, Oungku, Natural Rampler, Tizzy, CP, Tian, Danski, Ricardo Dru, Hard Knaxx competing in it? That show would rival any T&T competition ... but they don't care about our Carnival ... they only care about themselves and them fraid licks!!!

#7 Knowledge » 2012-08-09 13:33

People always have something negative to say. CP is still on top. She did perform well in the competition although I think Tian definitely won Groovy she had the best Jumpy performance but was over time which is why she was not crowned victor. We as Antiguans should be wishing her well and supporting her as she continues to grow as an international soca superstar.

Now she got beaten badly she wants to stay out? Poor advisors and management. You should have left on top. Now you are nobody and will have extreme difficulty making it on the international stage with those losers around. sorry but this decision by you is too little too late.

when i heard my mother say I hope this will teach her that her time has come and gone I was shocked. Even a woman who doesn't attend carnival or even pay attention could make a comment. Its time to retire soon, but mind you its best to retire on top!

Too Late

#1 Watching » 2012-08-09 06:16

CP, Now? Now, you looking at international career? Too late may be the cry; you have allowed bad decisions to now turn you in to a mediocre artiste.

Look at how you messed up the Digicel contract; looked at how you parted company with the Da Band; looked at how you allowed "Sleeping" artistes to want to hog your popularity and ride on your back. I am sorry, but I think these are lost opportunities.

I really hope that I am proved wrong, since I really admire you as a top Caribbean artiste; but sometimes...... ............too late, too late shall be the cry!!
