Antigua St. John’s - With the donation of a fully loaded Kia Rio motorcar and free comprehensive insurance for the winner of this year’s Queen of Carnival, Harney Motors has undoubtedly earned its spot as the show’s title sponsor.

Harney Motors revealed it was providing title sponsorship on Friday, July 6 during a massive carnival-like event at its showroom on American Road. The 2012 Kia Rio, valued at EC $65,485, has been officially donated as the grand prize and General Insurance Company will cover the vehicle’s comprehensive insurance for a full year.
 
By its action, the 42-year-old car dealership has set the pace for other corporate citizens to contribute to the staging of the 2012 Carnival celebrations.
 
Chairman of the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) Kayode O’Marde indicated that unlike years past, the financial burden of premier carnival events will not sit solely on the shoulders of the CDC, but will be shared with the business community in a manner that sufficiently benefits the latter to warrant significant injections.
 
O’Marde said the move opens up the avenue to “take the queen show to the next level.”

Harney Motors has said there is nothing more important than giving back to the community that it has had the pleasure of serving for over four decades.
 
Meanwhile, Queen of Carnival sub-Committee Chairman Shane Marsh said that the vehicle would serve as a notable incentive for the Queen of Carnival hopefuls to put their efforts into their skills, rather than relying on beauty alone.
 
“The public is in for a treat this year. Expect more than just a showcase of beauty from these young ladies. Thank you Harney Motors for such an investment; it will go a long way in encouraging the girls to truly give their best,” Marsh said.
 
This marks yet another first for the CDC in recent years, especially in the area of its Queen of Carnival event. Only recently, the committee cheerfully announced the full sponsorship of each queen contestant, a milestone that had not been achieved in recent history.
 
The 2012 Queen of Carnival Show will be showcased on Monday, July 30 and the winner of the coveted crown will drive off in the brand new Kia Rio.
