Antigua St John's - For the first time in three years, the Queen of Carnival pageant is fully sponsored, with each contestant not only having a champion to carry the financial burden, but also moral support in her corner.
Unmasked at a cocktail event on Sunday at the Rex Halcyon Resort, the six sponsors all pledged their commitment to corporate citizenship in this year’s event.
The history-making half-dozen include:
Ayoushe Beauty Supplies Ltd - which will carry delegate #1 Tenisha Sabastian;
Education for Advancement (EFA) which will carry delegate #2 - Davelie Payne-Abbott;
Chefs 2U Events Ltd - which will carry delegate #3 Ranee LaRonde;
Eastern Caribbean Amalgamated Bank (ECAB) - which will carry delegate #4 Alana Michael;
Ideal Autos - which will carry delegate #5, Kimberly King.
Myst Carnival which will carry delegate #6 - Andrea Athill; and

Each of the “sizzling six” delegates replaced their sashes to include the names of their sponsors. This was further cemented with the presentation of a portrait of each delegate to the sponsor representative.
Chairman of the Carnival Development Committee (CDC) Kayode O’Marde lauded the Queens sub-committee, as their accomplishment fits with the CDC's plans to cut out-of-pocket expenses and allow the corporate community to carry this year’s event.
To reward the sponsors, O’Marde said the CDC would focus on providing each sponsor with exposure in keeping with their contributions to the celebrations.
Antigua and Barbuda Queen of Carnival Latisha Greene thanked the sponsors for taking the bold step to create avenues for the 2012 delegates not afforded to her group or the one before. She made no effort to shield her “jealousy” of their opportunity.
Sponsors meanwhile expressed confidence in the success of their delegates.
