Antigua St John's - International Women's Day will be celebrated on Thursday March 8 under the theme, "Building a Future with Women's Vision".
The Directorate of Gender Affairs has invited women to share their visions, ideas, and actions for a just, caring, democratic and violence-free nation, while commemorating 101 years of the international event set aside to recognise women’s contributions to political, social, cultural, and economic life.
A women’s forum will be held at the Jolly Beach Resort and Spa, Hibiscus Room, from 9:30 am to 4 pm, as a space for women to network, have meaningful discussion, and be empowered.
The event will be attended by internationally-renowned gender justice advocate, scholar, and lecturer Dr Rosina Wiltshire.
Wiltshire has worked across the globe with women and men striving for gender equity and equality in all structures and institutions of public life, and was part of Nelson Mandela's restructuring team for a post-apartheid South Africa.
She also helped to facilitate the Swedish government’s institution of a quota system which now ensures women have equal access to positions of leadership. Presently serving as the CARICOM Advocate for Gender Justice, Dr Wiltshire will support the forum as its Honourable Guest Facilitator.
