Williams Visits All Saints Secondary

Home Economics StudentsAntigua St. john's - Acting Minister of Education Winston Williams Jr accepted an invitation from sports coach John Lloyd to visit All Saints Secondary School on Wednesday to get a firsthand view of existing and proposed sports and recreational initiatives.

On his arrival, Senator Williams was also welcomed by Deputy Principal Comacho, who provided a guided tour of the institution.

Coach Lloyd, a staff member in the Department of Sports, has been on assignment at the school overseeing football development. In addition, Coach Lloyd has been able to engage the management, staff, and students to establish the only public school fitness gym on the island. Additionally, the collaboration has resulted in ongoing upgrades of the quadrangle with the long-term expectation that it will serve as a green space in which students can work and play safely.

Williams lauded the efforts of the coach and school for initiating the projects designed to enhance the sports and recreational programme for the students. He added that such initiatives will positively impact the health and wellness of the staff and students. During the tour, Coach Lloyd also took the acting minister on a tour of the field between the secondary school and JT Ambrose Primary.

Both the coach and the deputy principal called for the fencing and upgrading of the area to provide urgently needed space which can be utilised by both primary and secondary schools for sports and recreation. School officials underscored the need to enclose the area as soon as possible, since the nearly 800 students at the institution have long outgrown the available space within the confines of the school buildings.

Senator Williams made a commitment to engage the ministry of Lands to address the extensive illegal squatting on school property, as well as the Public Works Department and the Board of Education to address the fencing and upgrading of the field.

After the tour of the field, Minister Williams spent time with students and teachers in the Home Economics and Agricultural Science departments. Students were preparing meals and planting and packing eggs from the laying hens raised as part of the school programme.

How come this facility was not fenced when Mr. Williams was spending over $53 million on his fencing spree, did he forget about these folks?
