Antigua St. John's - Staff members of the Nova Scotia Bank’s Antigua branch were dressed in school uniforms from their alma maters to show support for Education Week of activities yesterday.
Scotia's Operations Manager (Acting) for the Caribbean Pascal Hughes told Caribarena that the money from the bake sale also held yesterday will be going to the Jennings Secondary School to help set up a sick bay to take care of students.
"What happened is about three years ago, one of the staff members said let's try something and we called it 'school call in,' where all the staff members would wear their uniforms from their alma mater school and it came off quite big, it was exciting," he said.
Hughes added that last year, the bank donated two sewing machines to All Saints Secondary.
He said the staff was very excited to dress up in their old school clothes, adding "I'm still able to fit into my school uniform, so it’s quite exciting for me too."
Paula Michaels, part of the ScotiaBank family, said the breakfast sale came off really well, and it went into the lunch and brunch periods as there was so much food.
Meanwhile, the bank has been involved in other community ventures this year.
Hughes noted that they have assisted Breast Friends with a monetary donation.
"We were able to raise close to $14,000 for them, and all we did was to put out some small piggy banks and encourage the customers to make a donation and the teller who was able to get the most, we gave them a little prize,” he explained.
This helped to encourage the staff, and the customers were very supportive.
