Tara Spencer Awarded 2012 In Pursuit of Excellence Scholarship

Tara SpencerAntigua St. John’s - The Antigua Girls’ High School Alumni Association New York- USA, Inc., (AGHSAA NY-USA, Inc) congratulates Ms Tara Spencer, the recipient of the 2012 “In Pursuit of Excellence” scholarship award to attend the Antigua State College.

The alumni also congratulates Spencer on being the Valedictorian of the 2012 graduating class of the AGHS, her excellent performance on her CSEC exams where she attained 10 Grade One passes at the general proficiency level.

AGHSAA NY-USA, Inc “thanks Ms. Spencer for continuing the longstanding tradition of excellence which has set our Alma Mater apart from the rest. Ms. Spencer’s commitment to excellence is truly admirable and we are confident that she will continue to be a good ambassador for both her Alma Mater and the people of Antigua & Barbuda.We wish her well in all of her endeavours.”

The scholarship selection process was a joint effort of the AGHSAA NY-USA, Inc. Scholarship Committee of “Old Girls” chaired by Elouise Hill-Challenger and included members Ophetta David, Julie Romeo-Harvey, Catherine Simon-Gordon and Megan Sampson. The Scholarship Selection Committee is comprised of “Old Girls”, to include Holly Peters, Consultant; Marisia James, Chairperson; Ornel Walker-Maurice, Secretary; Dr. Ermina Osoba; Valerie Richards Burton; and Charlene Selkridge.



All applications submitted were considered, carefully assessed and scored by both committees. Ms. Spencer was chosen from a group of eight finalists and selection was based on combined scores from both committees. Ms. Spencer will be pursuing studies in the Advanced Level Department at the Antigua State College.

The Scholarship will cover full tuition, registration, and books for the duration of the programme. It is anticipated that this full scholarship award, including books and all related fees, will be continued annually.

President Gloria Airall-Simon, the officers and members of the Antigua Girls’ High School Alumni Association New York-USA Inc. are happy with the continued support of the Principal of the Antigua Girls’ High School, Mrs. Yvette Samuel, during this process.
