Antiguan Awarded Hospitality Scholarship

Antiguan Awarded Hospitality ScholarshipAntigua St. John’s – Jan Joseph, who is pursuing an Associate Degree in Hospitality Management, is the recipient of an educational grant from CIBC First Caribbean
International Bank.

Joseph, a final year student at Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute (ABHTI), was awarded US $3,000 by the financial institution as it reaffirmed its commitment to upgrade the skills of Caribbean nationals involved in the tourism sector.

According to a release, this commitment was made by the bank’s Country Manager Michael Spencer during a ceremony hosted by the Caribbean Hotels & Tourism Association’s Education Foundation (CHTAEF) and the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) at the Curtain Bluff Hotel.

“We reaffirm our commitment to the Caribbean communities in which we operate, and congratulate the CHTAEF for another successful effort in developing the persons committed to working in our vital tourism industry,” Spencer said.

“CIBC First Caribbean enjoys a longstanding and close relationship with the hospitality sector in Antigua and around the Caribbean. We are one of the sponsors of the CHTA’s annual scholarship programme because we recognise that tourism is everybody’s business and we are all closely linked.”

Mr. Spencer said that Caribbean nations must continue to train and upgrade the skills of their people in the hospitality industry.

To date, CIBC First Caribbean have invested over US $70,000 in scholarships, including the year’s total of US $10,000, in Caribbean students who are pursuing tourism-related studies.

Ms. Joseph thanked CIBC First Caribbean International Bank for the grant and assured everyone that she will continue to make all her supporters proud.
