Financial Examiner Completes Fellowship at Boston University

Mr Morvin WilliamsAntigua St. John’s – Senior examiner within the Financial Services Regulatory Commission, Mr Morvin Williams recently completed a fellowship in Banking and Finance at Boston University’s Graduate School of Management in Boston, Massachusetts.

The fellowship, named after the late American Senator and Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey, is a Fulbright exchange activity that provides 10 months of non-degree academic study and related professional experiences in the United States.

The programme provides a basis for creating lasting ties between US citizens and their professional counterparts in other countries. It also fosters an exchange of knowledge and mutual understanding, through which the United States joins in a significant partnership with developing countries.

With one of the core components being leadership development and enhancement, the fellowship programme is flexible and allows fellows to choose various courses at their assigned university.

During his fellowship year, Mr Williams’ academic programme included courses in international banking strategy and regulation, securitization, fixed income markets, financial management, and investments.

Llike many other fellows, Mr Williams had the privilege of attending various seminars/conferences and, in so doing, he was able to interact with individuals from a wide cross section of professional disciplines.

One of the high points of his fellowship year, as expressed in the US Embassy Bridgetown BlogSpot, was the professional affiliation component, whereby fellows become affiliated with an institution(s) in the United States, whose mandate is similar to their respective professional careers.

Over a six-week period, Mr Williams was attached to a federal regulatory agency which afforded him the opportunity to understudy the approach to regulation and supervision of US banks for operational safety and soundness.

Mr. Williams, congratulations . Always good when achievements like these are highlighted. It continues to remind that we (the Caribbean region) need to put more faith in our own human resources

How would your non-academic degree information be used to save the UPP from corruption in high places and incompetence all over the place? Help needed badly!
