Antigua St John's - Technical officers within the Ministry of Education have begun their second round of discussions, geared toward improving the quality of education being offered to students in Antigua & Barbuda, particularly those within the public schools.
A release from the ministry said "proposals aimed at an overall improvement of the national education system will be tabled and discussed at length before being adopted." The two-day retreat that began on Wednesday in the Presidential Suite of the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds.
Officers will mull several issues, including plans for ICT in schools, special needs education, a school leaving certificate, and a curfew for students. The educators will also plan for the new school year, and will hear from Minister of Education, Sports, Youth and Gender Affairs Dr Jacqui Quinn-Leandro on the long-term plan for Universal Secondary Education (USE).
Components of the OECS Education Sector Strategy (OESS) concept paper will also be examined during closed door sessions.
