I'm a product of teen pregnancy. My mom had to drop out of school when she was pregnant with my sister, I came along less than two years later. It was hard for her yes, but she was a hard worker. Having gone through what she did caused her to encourage my sister and I to complete our own education. Yes I wished that society had given her a break and allowed this incredibly smart woman to complete her education. But today she's a business owner- graduated from the school of hard knocks. Sex outside of marriage is still a sin but God reserves judgement for Himself. No one benefits from denying these girls an education.

Education Is What Our Society Needs

Now let me be devils advocate and ask a few questions. 1. To those of you who think parents need to tell their children to wait - The bible states that sex outside of marriage is a sex, so how many of you waited until you were married to have sex? 2. To those of you who complain about the increase in the crime rate - If you have a family and you what no means of getting food on the table what would you do? General Questions: 1. It is stated in our laws that a child is entitled to free education until the age of 16 but how many girls who got pregnant before the age of 16 were forced to leave school in the past? 2. What value do you place on education? 3. Is the right of a girl different from that of a boy? 4. Have you ever made a mistake or did something that you regret? 5. Do you believe in development? 6. Look around the community, do you see the cycle repeating itself?

My daughter was a teenage mother but that did not stop her from enrolling into Med School. I could not stop loving my daughter because of that, I was angry but I loved her more and I love my grand daughter to death. Should a male student soon to be father be denied the opportunity to continue his education while the would be mother is waiting for her expected delivery date?

Certainly I can appreciate that every teen needs an education. However, I think the onus should be with the child to be responsible. Our system should indicate that although there are recourses, there is also consequences to their actions. If such become the order of the day, then the teen will find themselves displaying higher degree of being responsible.

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock! When will the Educators and People receive the Statistical Data & Information from the 2011 Census? Nation Building requires that you manage what you can measure. Leaders at all levels of Civic Society & GoAB must understand a basic tenet that decisions should be fact based. Give the speaker the benefit of the doubt since he recovers with Teen Pregnancy & Education were mutually exclusive from emancipation to Independence. Nation Building requires that we not only Transform our Attitudes but also our Behavioural Patterns.
So i think that as parents we should teach our girls to WAIT, and our boys to respect them enough to not mess up their young lives... today pregnancy is the least among our youths having sex. there is HIV and STI so please it is about time that we allow these young girls to at lease have an education if they are serious about doing right in life. if we raise our children well we have nothing to be afraid of, they will simply see this as a tip ..that will say DON"T YOU EVER TRY THIS !!!! these young women have to weather many storms not just the pregnancy.

i can see this from almost every angle, since i was once a teen who became pregnant in school, i applaud the persons who are finally try to take this to a different level, by allowing these young woman to attend school , "DO YOU EVEN KNOW THAT IS IS HARDER TO FACE EVERYONE PREGNANT AS A TEEN DAY DAY AND DAY OUT" it takes a great deal of courage , one may also say "did you not know this before you indulged in the act, unless you were taken advantage of(raped) do you that it is very hard , the things people say about you behind and in front of your face, the constant look on your parents face, the disgust on the faces of your villagers, sometime teachers and others , but the young man who's sperm turn your egg into a child is allowed to continue school , get a degree have a life , and you left short changed whit a kid and hopefully like me this young woman would have had a great family support and return to school and make something of her self.

Pregnant Teens can Attend School

This news is quite uplifting. I bet it does not apply to private schools. As a teenager back in the day, I attended CKHS and became pregnant at 16. By all accounts, I was extrememely smart, and was going places. As "Just Asking" stated, children who don't feel loved by parents look for it else where. That happened to me. I had to drop out of school. Five months into the pregnancy, I had a miscarriage; to my surprise, they were twin boys. Imagine a 16 year old with two children, no job, and no support from the man who impregnated me; turned his back on us when he learnt that I was pregnant. The saying "God Moves in Mysterious Ways" was quite apropo at the time. Children, please abstain from having sex for as long as is humanly possible. Your education should be your #1 priority, it is a passport to lift yourselves out of poverty; however, things happen. So, now that you are armed with the information that your academics will not suffer because of teenage indiscretions, please commit to staying in school. A separate building should be used for the education of pregnant teens. Some students still have their innocence, and we should respect that.

It amazes me how very shortsighted some of are by what we choose to type/ write in these blogs. Having said that, there are some truly creative thoughts that have been passed along. Finally, this is a positive step. As posited by 'Just Asking' -The issue of sex at such a young age is far deeper, deal with those issues and you will find the teen pregnancy rate drop. We need to stop punishing our people over and over again and look for ways to build ourselves up and this is a good first step.

Children do not have sex because they are in or out of school. Young women have sex because they are looking for something that is missing in their lives and the believe the lies of a slick little boy with his own issues, or an older guy who ought to be jail for what he is doing. Young girls if they are being neglected at home by either or both parents, will seek love outside..... young girls who are missing father figures in their lives, will seek love outside.... young girls who have low self esteem, will seek love outside...... Punishing them and their unborn child by not allowing them to finish their education will no doubt add one more parent and child in to a life of poverty. I thought we were working hard at eradicating poverty????? Allowing pregnant teens to go to school does not encourage girls to go out have sex and get pregnant. The issue of sex at such a young age is far deeper, deal with those issues and you will find the teen pregnancy rate drop.

First of all, I believe that any student that becomes pregnant should be allowed to finish their education. They should definitely have the option of returning to school after giving birth. Yet, we must also make sure that other students are not 'influenced' that it is okay in society to be teenage mothers, while we give pregnant teens the option to finish their education. And, I believe that such "holistic manner" must be looked at. However, we must first have our "statistical data" available to go forward with all stakeholders. The issue of teen pregnancy needs to be addressed in society that sometimes/most of the times put 'social ills' on the back-burner only to revisit when it gets out of hand.
