Yes Sir, Mr. Minister. Heads You Win Tails They Lose!

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Mr. Minister, no doubt about it, "The Beach Is The Beginning". On another level it all begins with Marketing. Unless you revert from Marketing as being Glitz and Glamour to Relationship Building, the Chaos, Dissonance and Negative Communications which have descended on you like the Proverbial Ton Of Bricks will destroy all of your Good Intentions. This "mere voice in the wilderness" offer some very simple suggestions: Be Guided by the Understanding that Marketing is Relationship Building, Rebuild your Relationship with IATA; Honesty and Trust is critical to building a Shared Vision and Understanding. Your Bureaucrats must always be benchmarking so that they will provide you with relevant data at a minutes notice. They need a Transformative Quality Approach to Management Practices. It can be a winner to GoAB - Cash Flow & Visitors and provide the pricing structure beneficial to Nationals, Seniors and Caricom Members. Be A Winner. Heaven Help The Nation Of Antigua & Barbuda.

You see how this man is just a born hypocrite. He says ... As for the comparison to Antigua’s introduction of a new travel tax and its open opposition to the UK’s decision to do the same, the minister noted that the UK and US governments are demanding better security, facilities, and overall standards from regional destinations. “Where is that money going to come from?" ... So only his airport needs these things ... I guess that the UK and other airports don't need better security, facilities etc... You see the foolishness of that comes out of their mouth sometimes!!!

Tenman, thanks for the break down! Perhaps Maginley can now respond to IATA that he changes his mind on the proposed $75 dollars in taxes on passengers by lowering it to now $63.75. I hope my friend, InteresteD, realize why his MP took all this long to get make a comment or even respond to IATA? Sometimes I wonder if the Joker thinks his brain is big enough to mislead the public! Good try John!

R. S. Baptiste - your figures are wrong

R. S. Baptiste your figures are wrong. St. Kitts taxes are currently lower than ours for non caricom travelers by 5 usd (St. Kitts & Nevis 47 usd vs ours 52.00 USD) and ours is lower than theirs by 2.00 USD for caricom travelers (St. Kitts & Nevis 47.00 USD vs ours 45.00 USD). This then means in total ours is currently higher than St. Kitts & Nevis when you factor in that we get more non caricom travelers and the amount of the difference . When you recognize that we are looking at increasing ours to 75.00 USD or 63.75 USD (If Maginley is to be believed), I am sure you recognize the difference will only get larger? ..

What IATA stated was the introduction of the new tax will see us charging over 75.00 USD per person. The bill which can be found at http://www.caribarena.com/antigua/component/attachments/download/173.html reflected the 75.00 usd both ways (round trip). This (75.00 USD) change is what they stated will make us too high. The minister then says no our eyes deceive us its actually 63.75 USD. I figure since its an act subject to debate that the government has decided to lower the fee from the proposed 75 usd to now 63.75. The minister should have simply stated that. R. S. Baptiste looking at your example of St. Kitts, even with the increase in their departure tax (see http://www.thestkittsnevisobserver.com/2011/12/16/departure-tax.html), their tax is still lower than ours will be. The reason is they charge a 10.00 usd Passenger facility charge, and departure tax is 100 EC or 37 usd. R. S. Baptiste, we are therefore looking at about 47.00 usd for st. kitts (before sales tax) vs the 75 or 63.75 (before sales tax) being proposed for Antigua. Non caricom persons currently pay over 53 usd (28.00 dep tax and 25.00 PFC) on trips to and from Antigua ..

Base on my research, Mr. Maginley's figures are correct. St. Kitts and Nevis had the highest tax, they increased there’s taxes by 100% at the end of 2011. The US tax is about 15% of the ticket price.
