A Unique Small Air Travel Market

Notes From A Native Son Of The Rock. Glitz, Glamour and Cheap Airfares will not enlarge the Market. When will the data, information and History of Privateer Failures in the Airline Industry convince those who are looking for the procverbial "free ride". No where on this green planet does this small market exist with so many SIDS. "The Caribbean Airline" must always be Vigilant and Transformative - Redesign, Restructure, Reengineer and Realign. This is another Teachable Moment and Learning Opportunity to reload or as is said on the Rock - "Wheel and Come Again." LIAT's Board, Administration, Pilots, Flight Attendants, Ground Staff, and Stakeholders must embrace the Quality Imperative at all levels and facets of its operations. Excellent Customer Service must be a Priority and be understood by all for a healthy bottom line, loyalty and longevity. Grow - Purchase Brazil's Embraear. The warm Caribbean Waters are littered with the Wrecks and Successes of many North Atlantic Buccaners & Privateers. Only a Shared Vision and Mission by us Natives can put an end to this continuous attempt at Plunder.

Were low fares sustainable or another attempt at LIAT?

Upon the arrival arrival of RedJet and its extremely low fares I was very curious to know if 5.99 and 9.99 fares sustain a jet based airline? Secondly, in the media release it was stated that "REDjet is hopeful that we will be given a small part of the State assistance others receive"... Hopeful? Was hopeful in RedJet's business plan? The "others" I can only assume is a reference to state owned airlines LIAT/Caribbean Airlines. I then deduce that RedJet a private airline was "hopeful" to get subsidies (i.e. tax payers money) to compete against our (state) owned airlines.

i think other airline taking advantage on the caribbean people, they charge 500us to newyork return which is 11 hour flight and trinidad is just 55 minutes and they want 200 us dollar shame on them.i think someone in authourity should look into this matter.when fares low it makes people to travel more in the region which will create a faster revenue for the goverment on both side.

Thank god this sham burned out before it got off the ground. The UPP needs to start protecting our national airline from these foreign adventurers. There is no money to be made from $1 airfares. LIAT may not get you there on time, but LIAT belong to ar’we!

Red Jet went too far

Recently I booked a flight on Redjet to Guyanna for $5.99USD. In comparison the same LIAT flight would have costed more than $200 USD. While everyone loves low prices we would prefer a sustainable airline even if the prices are slightly higher. I have taken 6 RED jet flights sense the airline opened and have never paid more than $39.99. Frankly I would be happy to support RED Jet if it guaranteed every flight at $50USD and I think may others would as well. Yes we would prefer to pay $5USD but if the choice is $50 on RedJet or $200 on LIAT redjet is the clear choice. Redjet would be able to (in some cases) increase revenue 10 fold while still being the cheapest option.

Travel within the caribbean would never be profitable using the MD80's. However, the caribbean people must now put full support behind LIAT. Yes, they are not doing everything correct, but they are surely not doing everything wrong or else they would not still be in the air. It is proven that LIAT is the only airline that will always be there for us through thick and thin, all the others only say so but fail us every time.

Not long ago I suggested to a friend that those who are anti Liat should not be quick to rejoice about the arrival of Red Jet. It seems to me that while the management of Liat may need some looking into, the fact remains that transporting people up and down the Caribbean is not as simple a job both in terms of cost and logistics as we would like to think. God bless our regional carrier.
