Antigua St. John’s - The newly opened consignment store “The Trading Post” on Friar’s Hill Road seems to be just what the doctor prescribed in these hard economic times.
Owners Barbara Ross and Janet Bento sell good stuff for a good price. The sisters came up with the idea to open a consignment store because they felt there was a need for what they call “good quality second hand stuff”, and in addition to that individuals get a chance to make some extra money while getting rid of unwanted items. The Trading Post suits the sisters’ personalities well as both are into recycling and re-using.
According to Ross they had a soft opening. “We placed an ad in the newspaper and that brought us some customers. However, towards the end of the day word had spread and it was real busy. We sold about half the items in store”, she adds. “With the way the economy is right now people like selling their unwanted goods and getting some extra cash while the buyers like the good deals.”
