New Consignment Store Opens Its Doors

New Consignment Store Opens Its DoorsAntigua St. John’s - The newly opened consignment store “The Trading Post” on Friar’s Hill Road seems to be just what the doctor prescribed in these hard economic times.

Owners Barbara Ross and Janet Bento sell good stuff for a good price. The sisters came up with the idea to open a consignment store because they felt there was a need for what they call “good quality second hand stuff”, and in addition to that individuals get a chance to make some extra money while getting rid of unwanted items. The Trading Post suits the sisters’ personalities well as both are into recycling and re-using.

According to Ross they had a soft opening. “We placed an ad in the newspaper and that brought us some customers. However, towards the end of the day word had spread and it was real busy. We sold about half the items in store”, she adds. “With the way the economy is right now people like selling their unwanted goods and getting some extra cash while the buyers like the good deals.”

The sisters believe that sourcing the right goods is extremely important. Being selective about what they accept is a key factor, but that also makes it very time consuming, Ross admits.

Once an item is sold, the original owner gets 70 per cent of the cut. The Trading Post keeps 30 per cent and donates 1 per cent of their share to St. John’s Hospice.

”It’s a great cause as St. John’s Hospice takes care of terminally ill people for free. It is always good to give back,” adds Ross.

Anyone who has for sale may call Barbara Ross at 464-3375, Janet Bento at 464-5542 or contact them at The Trading Post (former Briko 1 location) on Friar’s Hill Road.

I was in the other day (Saturday) with Mrs. Meeker. I am interested in the outdoor wood dinette with the cushions. You didn't have a price for them yet. I would like them. Will you hold them for me with a deposit please. Thank you. NM
