LIAT Clears The Air on Delayed Salaries

Antigua St John’s – The management of regional airline LIAT has advised that it has commenced processing salaries for all its employees and that monthly paid workers will receive their remuneration at the end of June.

In a release, Corporate Communications Manager Desmond Brown said the company “has taken note of reports in the regional media regarding the delayed payment of salaries for the month of June 2012”.

As explanation, Brown said that “the Company’s pay cycle varies among the different groups of LIAT employees and… some LIAT staff have already received their June salaries.”

However, he said that it is anticipated that by July 3 all LIAT employees would have received their salaries for the month of June.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced in sections of the media that the airline had advised its workers that payment of salaries for June would be delayed due to cash flow setbacks attributed to the June 10 fire at its hangar at V C Bird International Airport.

Arson has since been ruled out as the cause of the inferno in which a Dash 8 aircraft and office block buildings were completely destroyed. Damages were estimated to be in the region of EC$35 million.
