It is a privilege to live in Antigua, especially when you are an aspiring photographer. It doesn’t matter that there aren’t any ‘sky-high’ buildings or malls because we have everything here on this island.
There are beautiful beaches - 365 to be exact. We are surrounded by greenery, different and beautiful characters, history, nature, and so much more. I live in paradise, what more can I ask for?
For a photographer, the diversity of life in Antigua is wonderful. I’ve seen amazing shots of sunsets at Hercules Pillars, deserted beaches, a pelican swooping down to catch its dinner and fishermen coming home with their dinner, the bustle of the market on Saturday morning, classic yachts at English Harbour and revelers in their element, playing Mas.
The day-to-day life in the villages presents wonderful opportunities for a photographer: school children laughing, old men on their donkeys, young men playing dominoes at the rum shack, and the women… Well the women are working.

Some of my favourite places to photograph are our tropical rain forest, Wallings Dam, and the village of Freetown. I remember living in Browns Bay and going to the bakery on Saturday morning at sunrise with my father. The smell of fresh bread from that bakery will stay in my mind forever.
Each Sunday I drive and find something new to photograph. Whether it is a pineapple farm, old sugar mills, fields of sugar cane, or a golden-sanded beach with waves crashing onto a white washed out piece of driftwood. There is always something to capture in Antigua. And this island is full of surprises. Each photo captures a story and a memory
