I am not only happy, but also proud to say that I got the chance to be behind the scenes with a wedding photographer, and to be the wedding photographer.

I gained a lot from the experience, as I learned how to direct the couple, get the couple into a comfort zone with me, correctly light the couple with a flash and umbrella, and many other things. I didn’t just get the opportunity to learn things from the photographer, I also learned things about myself, gained more courage, and am now paving a path for myself as a photographer.


Assisting with the different shoots was a lot of work. I had to put in my all every day, but it was okay because I really and truly enjoyed myself. I loved seeing the couples get married; I loved working with the different characters, and most of all, I loved working with the photographer. It gave me a thrill; it sent a good chill down my spine. It was so exciting, and every day was a new adventure for me. I felt like I wasn’t just any assistant, I was the assistant of the person who captures the wonderful moments and memories of a beautiful day.


Here are a couple of tips I learned:

1. Always be on time
2. Come to the shoot without any expectations
3. Carry a watch
4. Wear something that is comfortable and easy to work in
5. Record your day in a book, for example, the time you started working and the time you finished.



This summer I went to Denmark for my uncle's wedding. I asked his permission to take photos of him and his new wife in the church during the ceremony, and he approved.

After the ceremony, his friend, a professional photographer, asked me if I wanted to come along for a soft photo shoot with my uncle and (new) aunt. I didn’t even hesitate. For about an hour and a half, Lizzy and I were snapping away. She taught me how to position the couple without getting any shadows, inspired me, and gave me new ideas. She also made me feel welcome. It was honestly a dream come true working on a shoot with her. It opened my eyes and my mind raced. Now I know I am on my way to making my photography aspiration come true.


Day in the Life with a Still Life Photographer

Photographers specialize in various topics: food, weddings, architecture and/or interior, sports, fashion, yachts and many more. In this article, I will be writing about my experience with a still life photographer. I’ve always thought that still life photography was just taking photos of scenery or nature, but it doesn’t necessarily mean just nature, it means a still thing or person.


I learned this on a still life photo shoot. The photographer was taking photos for a hotel's new brochure. I was there to assist him, and hand him the lenses he needed. A few times he even asked for my input, which made me feel a part of the crew.

For example, I would say something like, “Maybe she could move a little to the right and put her hand on his shoulder.”  It was a fun shoot, everyone was lively and I got to see how a few photos turned out. I love to see how the photos turn out in the end. I learned a few things as well, like how to get different angles, how to diffuse a flash, and the meaning of still life photography. It was a wonderful experience and I am very grateful to have worked with all these different photographers. They have helped me with the technical side of photography and how to make a photo look fabulous.
