Antigua st John's - Artistic young people who participated in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign in 2010 will be celebrated during the launch of a mural showcasing their work on Friday June 17 at 2:30 pm.
The Directorate of Gender Affairs is pleased to launch the 16 Days of Activism, YOUTH “UNiTE” Mural, at the north outer wall of the Antigua Recreation Grounds. It features logos designed by young people from across Antigua & Barbuda for the annual 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence (GBV) Campaign 2010.
The international campaign starts on November 25, International Day Against Violence Against Women, and ends on December 10, International Human Rights Day, symbolically linking violence against women and human rights to emphasize that such violence is a human rights violation.
The 16 Days of Activism focuses on raising awareness at the local, national, regional and international levels about gender-based violence, and demonstrating the solidarity of activists around the world.
The 2010 Directorate of Gender Affairs campaign focussed on engaging young people in the efforts to end GBV, and gained the support of UN Women – the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment for the year’s activities. The year's theme was, "Youth UNiTE to End Gender-based Violence," named after UN Secretary General's Campaign "UNiTE" to end Violence Against Women.
