Antigua St John's - A new art gallery and gift shop has opened, to fill the void left by the closing of the Woods Art Gallery and The Art Loft in St John’s.
Art At The Ridge is located at Sugar Ridge, on the western side of the island, opposite Jolly Harbour. The gallery is already featuring the following well-known Antiguan artists:
Jane Seagull – Jane has been passionate about art since childhood and works in various mediums, which have been commissioned from Canada to the Canary Islands.
David Cadogan – David has made his name as one of the Caribbean’s leading watercolour painters. Most of his work is about people or boats.
Deborah Eckert – Deborah is an award-winning pastel portraits and landscape artist. She also works in sculpture, hand-sewn decorative wall- hangings, and photography.
Sallie Harker - Sallie is an established international artist based in Antigua for over 20 years. Her work is mainly inspired by the sea and by marine and bird life.
Gilly Gobinet – Gilly paints mostly figurative Caribbean subjects in watercolour, acrylic, oil, and other media.
Sarah Fuller – Sarah uses Antigua clay and unique glazes to create her functional and decorative pottery pieces.
Katie McConnachie – Katie uses pen and ink, acrylic, Prismacolour pencils, and airbrush techniques for her wildlife, pets, and island life paintings.
Other well-known Antiguan artists who will soon also be represented at the art gallery include Jill Fuller, Marie Kinsella, Jan Farara, Jason Pickering, Lyris Tracey, and Edison Liburd.
Art At The Ridge also features locally made crafts in various forms. This includes hand-painted "shakers" (seed pods from the Flamboyant tree); soaps and lotions - all naturally made; sauces, jams, and chutneys made from locally grown fruit and vegetables; pottery, sculpture, prints, and cards, as well as books on art, history, and culture.

Owner Joy James said she is keen to promote and support the island’s artists and artisans. “We have so much creative talent on this small island, and there is a need for this type of venue to showcase this talent, for the public to have access to it at their convenience," she said.
"Art and crafts aren’t just for tourists and visitors to the island, although they make wonderful gifts and souvenirs. Creative arts of any description make a house feel like a home, bring joy to our hearts and give us inspiration in life."
Opening hours are Monday to Friday - 9 am to 5 pm, Saturday - 9 am to 12 pm
