Local Street Fair to be Staged Thursday

Antigua St John's - The Buy Local Street Fair is set for Thursday in downtown St John's. The Cultural Development Division has planned the initiative to establish stronger ties with the talented producers of art and craft in Antigua & Barbuda.

The event will also increase awareness of locally produced goods, and showcase the superior quality when compared to some competing imported goods.

The fair is being held in collaboration with the Buy Local Committee and the stakeholder of the local arts and craft sector. It will span most of the day, from 7 am until 9:30 pm under the theme “Buy local means supporting Antigua’s and Barbuda’s local economy." The venue is lower St Mary’s Street.

Art and craft products on sale will include locally made shoes, weaved fabrics, pottery, rattan baskets, soaps, jewelry, and body care products.

Highlights of the fair will include entertainment in the ACB parking lot featuring the reigning Jumpy Monarch - Tian Winter and his band, The Cheeze Kake Factory band, featuring Jashan Hughes, High Temper Band, Claudette “CP” Peters, Dusk Dance Group, Sunnydale Dance Group, National Drama Group, Hellsgate Steel Orchestra, Fashion Show, Impulse Steel, and the Point Iron Band. There will also be limbo dancers, lunch, a raffle, bingo, and an auction.

The public was encouraged to come out and support the local arts and craft sector.

The project was arranged with support from the following sponsors: Island Tent Rental, LAVA Sound System, Waste Management Solution, Enddarbo Lighting, Ministry of Public Works, Culture Division, National Festivals Office, Central Board of Health, Antigua Commercial Bank, SO Limited, Wadadli Audio, and the Original Printery.  

All proceeds will aid the development of arts and craft in Antigua & Barbuda.
