Antigua Sailing Week organisers have announced that over 270 original art pieces from 20 schools have been entered into this year’s LIAT sponsored Schools' Art Competition.
Both Antigua Sailing Week and LIAT representatives were enthused by the overwhelming interest and inspired by the creativity that the children displayed. Momentum continues to build as the judges begin evaluating and choosing this year’s winners. Final winners will be selected on April 15.
This year, the student’s explored, “What does Sailing Week mean to me?” AHTA’s Thaila David, co-ordinator of the competition, said, “The talent these young people display simply amazes us year after year. We are honoured to have them use this competition as a platform to showcase their artistry.”
The competition provides an opportunity for students of all ages to express their creativity and competitive spirit as well as be a part of Sailing Week, Antigua’s most recognised sporting event.
Prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners in each of the three age categories (5-8, 9-12 and 13-17). First place winners will each receive two LIAT airline tickets to any destination the airline flies. LIAT will also provide model airplanes and goody bags for participants.
Supplemental prizes were also donated by Jolly Beach, Diamonds International, Trade Winds Hotel, Wadadli Cats, and Zemi Art Gallery among others.
