The introduction of American Airlines' four self-service kiosks, although not an innovation globally, was welcomed by the aviation and tourism industry in Antigua.
Edward Gilkes, operations manager of the Antigua and Barbuda Airport Authority, said the feature sets new parameters to the operations at the VC Bird International Airport. He said the kiosks will allow travelers to save time, reduce the stress of travel, and eliminate airport congestion at peak intervals.
Aviation officials hope other airlines will do likewise to add to the overall airport enhancement and upgrade process.
The initiative not only spells positive movement within the aviation industry, but tourism officials can boast of a new selling point.
CEO of the Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority Colin James, who was present at the launch ceremony, said,
“This innovation by American Airlines is welcomed by the tourism fraternity as it shows that the company listens to the feedback from their passengers and industry stakeholders, and is constantly seeking ways to upgrade their service. The kiosks will be a welcome feature to our international airport and will no doubt enhance the overall visitor experience by expediting the departure process for American Airlines' passengers.”
Members of the aviation and tourism fraternity were also on hand last Friday for the launch, which involved airline staff and well-wishers.
