More training is in store for hotel workers, this time for housekeeping staff under the Capacity Building: Tourism Training and Certification Project, now in its second year.
The five-day programme targets employees attached to the housekeeping department to include line staff, prospective supervisors, and supervisors. Sessions will run from February 22 to 26, at the Jolly Beach Resort.
The first two days will take the form of a training and re-training exercise, with emphasis on the service skills required by guest room attendants to ensure they provide consistent and excellent service.
On the third and fourth days, the programme will be open only to mid-management/supervisory level staff who are already approved by the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institutue (AH&LEI) to earn the Certified Hospitality Department Training (CHDT) designation. They will be engaged in a 2-day Train the Trainer session and will write the CHDT Exam on the last day of the programme.
The Capacity Building Project aims to enhance the competitiveness and sustainability of the country’s tourism sector through ongoing training to upgrade and develop the tourism human resources.
Other target groups throughout the life of the project to date include hotel employees attached to the front desk, the food and beverage department and owners, managers and food and beverage managers of Small Hotels.
As an OAS multinational project, St Kitts and Nevis and Belize are also beneficiaries.
