Cruise Line May Be Back

E-mail

Cruise Line May Be BackAntigua may not have seen the last of Star Clippers, the cruise line that recently dropped the island from its itinerary after the murder of one of its passengers.

CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority (ABTA) Colin James said once the cruise line has completed an evaluation of existing and planned security measures, it could resume calls by next winter.

He said the company was not dissatisfied with the security measures, but thought it best to make a decision to bypass Antigua for now in the interest of its clients.

The ABTA boss said even though these acts of violence against tourists occur in isolation, they could damage the country’s image.

Meanwhile, he described the recent mugging of a tourist couple in the Villa Area as “senseless and irresponsible”.

He said it is unfortunate that people are targeting visitors, particularly when everyone else is working overtime to address the problem.

As a result, he is imploring people to be more sensitive to the situation, and to work to protect Antigua & Barbuda’s livelihood.

At the same time, the tourism CEO tipped his hat to the police and citizenry for doubling their efforts to fight crime.

This latest incident occurred on the same day top tourism and government officials held talks with influential ship owners from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association to reassure the organisation that the destination remains a safe place for visitors to enjoy.

good luck in st kitts & nevis

In January this year there were 3 recorded murders in st kitts and nevis. When you consider that this is a country of just over 40 000 people this is alarming. Over the past few years the murder rate and the actual number of murders in st kitts and nevis far surpa*ses A & B. Good luck to Star Clipper and its guests.

"In Charge"?

That would imply responsibility. No such 'ting in Antigua!

Just ask the Stanford investors!

Doesn't it seem odd to anyone, that our main industry, Tourism, has taken some major blows and to date we've not heard anything from the Minister in Charge. The same can be said with the ongoing debacle in the airport departure lounge and again we hear nothing from the minister in charge.
