E-mail

Antigua Sets Target at 1000 Travel Agents The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority’s UK Office is all set to visit 1000 independent travel agents.

Between February 10 and June 9, Antigua and Barbuda will participate in trade roadshows and workshops which will visit thirteen different towns and cities across the UK to give independent agents the chance to meet and get product information about Antigua and Barbuda.

The promotional initiative, entered into with Truly Independent Professional Travel Organisation (TIPTO) aims at aggressively promoting Antigua and Barbuda and training agents in how best to sell the destination.

Director of Tourism for the UK Office Hilary Modeste said: “The main goal of this initiative is to connect with our strategic partners and remind them that in Antigua and Barbuda, the beach is just the beginning.

We know from experience, that our agents are always quick to remember that Antigua and Barbuda is known for its 365 beaches.  Our aim now, is to broaden their knowledge of the destination; inform them about all the new developments that are taking place in Antigua and Barbuda, and share with them some of the unique experiences, exciting tours and activities that the destination has to offer our visitors.”

“We are also recognizing the growing importance of the role of the independent travel agents, and are ensuring that Antigua and Barbuda is well positioned to take advantage of the changing trends”, says Modeste.

The workshops will take the form of a free flowing exhibition and destination training on the country and will allow the UK team plenty of time to network with the agents.

TIPTO chairman Graham Balmforth said:   “The calibre of agents is always really good and we are told time and time again how beneficial the agents find the events, which build their product knowledge, help them to develop relationships with operators who want to support them, and play a big part in boosting business."

At the end of each training session, there will be a product quiz and agents will have the chance to win prizes including spots on educational trips to Antigua and Barbuda.

Joining the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, on the roadshows will be Galley Bay Resort and Spa, St. James’s Club, The Verandah Resort and Spa, Blue Waters and Sandals Grande Antigua Resort and Spa.

The Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority UK’s office, trade awareness campaign for 2010, is also being supported by a strong consumer awareness campaign. In January, the UK Office participated in a series of consumer shows, promoting the destination to potential travellers in Holland, Ireland, Manchester and other parts of the UK.
