Organisers of the annual Red Eye breakfast fete are gearing up for a high energy series of performances from their overseas acts. Not to be outdone, the Antiguan superstar line-up has promised to match their guests tune for tune, in what is building up to be an exciting encounter between the biggest giants in the soca industry.
The annual event, which has now surpassed its humble beginnings five years ago, when it provided a stage for Antiguan soca artists only, is now well on its way to becoming an international soca event.
This was the vision of event organisers - to expose Antiguan artists in a different way, while giving them an opportunity to shine alongside the brightest stars in the soca business on a single stage, as will be the case come July 17 at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.
With the announcement of the lineup recently, Chalita Rose, co-founder of the event and managing director of the Marketing Machine, said the response to Red Eye 2010 has been overwhelming, and has exceeded expectations.
“It’s been really heartening to see the response of our fans. We managed to sell a little over 500 in pre-ticket sales already. That’s amazing and it only goes to show that persons believe in our product in that we deliver. This year will be no different,” he said.
With the obvious high interest, he suggested that fans should make every effort to get tickets at the Early Bird special rate before they are forced to close off sales.
This year, Red Eye will feature the hottest soca star in the world, Machel Montano HD, and the HD crew including Patrice Roberts and Farmer Nappy. Also coming from Trinidad are the road march and international soca monarch champions JW and Blaize.
The hottest of the hot, Sir Unghku and the Red Hot Flames will be the featured act of the Antiguan lineup. So with Claudette Peters and her Taxic Band, Tizzy and El a Kru and soca champion Tian Winter, it gets no better than this.
